7 Markers of a Great Church

1) An attitude of humility and service. 

2) Great youth and children's work. 

3) A warm welcome.

4) Church unity is honoured - other churches and ministries are honoured.

5) Holy Spirit ministry - we want to see people encountering Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit. 

6) A culture of blessing - thank you to everybody that serves us in this community we want to bless you back that's the culture of blessing and 

7) Safeguarding – robust, taken seriously.


Homegroup Questions


1) Think about a time when you experienced truly great service or a warm welcome — what made it memorable?

2) In Mark 9:33–35, the disciples argue about who is the greatest. Why do you think this was such a natural concern for them — and why is Jesus’ response so radical?

3) Jesus highlights several marks of a great Christian community (an attitude of humility and service, welcoming everyone especially children and the vulnerable, unity, encouraging Holy Spirit ministry, generosity, safeguarding). Which of these stands out most to you, and why do you think Jesus emphasises it?

4) Christian greatness might look very different from worldly success. Where do you see tension between worldly ideas of success and Jesus’ model of servanthood in church life or everyday life?

5) What is one practical way you could help our church or your home group to become a 'great' Christian community?
